Thank you for visiting the home of Accounting Solutions.Now in our seventeenth year of operation, and yes, we have seen many changes during this time! I often wonder if anybody still remembers the worlds biggest hoax, the suppose to be disastrous Y2K. Amazingly we are still here, and the world is still turning on it's own axel.
What changes have we seen from the XT, green screen, computers to the now modern ultra fast, flat screen, super computers on our desks today. The changes and growth can only be described as phenomenal.
Yes, operating systems also changed in a big way. From the good old DOS days to today's drag and drop technology. Never thought I would ever live to see how easy it can be working with a mouse.
However, the biggest, the most exciting change, and the best change in our industry today, must be Linux that is claiming it's rightfull place as an operating system. The other fantastic benefit that came with Linux, is the Open-Source Industry.
Does this mean, (as a company) we have given up on Windows based software......... absolutely NOT. I trully believe that there will always be a market for both, however it will be no surprise to me if we do not see a third operating system emerging in the near future.
Open-Source software
When talking about Linux, the very first thing that comes to mind is the many thousands of free software packages available to all of us. Our own Ubuntu Linux version from the Mark Shuttleworth foundation.....the best version, (or 'distro' as the Linux gurus refer to it), for all new commers to Linux!
Of course, Novell's Open Suse, is the Linux guru's favourite distro by default. Then we have Sun Microsystems Open Office, all for free! The world's best firewall systems, e-mail servers, online backup solutions, the list just keep growing, all under the open-source license agreement.
